Iranian Baluchi Insurgents Jundullah Name Successor to Captured Leader, 'Abdul Malik Rigi, & Deny Iranian Government Allegations of U.S. Support

The Iranian Baluchi (Balochi) insurgent group Jundullah (God's Soldiers), which has carried out attacks on the Iranian military and security forces as well as terrorist attacks (on civilians or with wanton disregard for civilian deaths) Iran's Sistan-Baluchistan Province, have issued a lengthy statement denying the Iranian clerical government's allegations that the group has received support from the United States, Pakistan, and Great Britain. Jundullah has also named a successor to its amir (leader), 'Abdul Malik ('Abdul Malek) Rigi, who was captured earlier this week. The successor to Rigi, chosen by "all" of the group's members and in consultation with "allied groups," is identified in a separate statement as Hajji Muhammad Zahir Baluch. The honorific title "Hajji" refers to one who has performed the Muslim Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

Interestingly, both statements were issued in Arabic, suggesting that Jundullah maintains some sort of constituency among Arabic-reading publics or perhaps is seeking to attract news media coverage from the Arabic-language press.

The group issued a series of other statements, including one on assassinated HAMAS leader Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, which are embedded below via Scribd. I posted about earlier statements from Jundullah following Rigi's capture HERE and HERE. The group has stated that its goals are not embodied in one man, its captured leader, and has vowed to continue its "resistance" against Iranian government "oppression" of minority peoples in the "Islamic" Republic, including the Baluchi people.
