Breaking News: Al-Qa'ida Central Releases New Audio-Video on Obama's Visit to Egypt

A quick breaking news post before I literally run out the door: Al-Qa'ida Central's media wing, al-Sahab (The Clouds) has released an eleven minute and forty second audio-video from its chief ideologue, the Egyptian Dr. Ayman al-Dhawahiri (Zawahiri), addressing U.S. President Barack Obama's upcoming visit to and speech in Cairo, Egypt. In the introduction, al-Zawahiri says that Obama is not welcome in Egypt, the "Egypt of Salah ud-Din (Saladin)...'Amr ibn al-'As [a prominent companion of the Prophet Muhammad and conqueror of Egypt in the seventh century]...Khalid Islambuli [who assassinated Egyptian autocratic president Anwar al-Sadat in 1981]...'Umar 'Abd al-Rahman [the "blind shaykh" imprisoned in the U.S.]...Hasan al-Banna and Sayyid Qutb [two prominent members and, in the case of al-Banna, founder, of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood]...Muhammad Atta [one of the September 11, 2001 hijackers]." Al-Zawahiri says that Obama is not welcome in the "Egypt of al-Azhar," referring to the prominent Sunni Muslim seminary and university in Cairo, nor to the "Egypt of knowledge ('ilm) and jihad (struggle)."

Obama's political showboating at AIPAC, the chief right-wing Israeli lobby in the U.S., during the presidential primaries last year is highlighted in the audio-video. With great flare, al-Zawahiri comments that Obama delivered a speech at AIPAC in which he said that Jerusalem should remain forever under Israeli control, even Palestinian East Jerusalem and the contested Old City. The international community recognizes Jerusalem as a contested city.

Al-Zawahiri also highlights Obama's maintenance of former President George W. Bush's detention policies at Bagram airbase in Afghanistan, and Obama's "surge" in Afghanistan and pressuring of the Pakistani government under the prime minister, "Mr. 10%" Asif 'Ali Zardari, to launch massive, old style military assaults on Pashtun tribal regions in western Pakistan. Under Obama, al-Zawahiri says, the U.S. remains an occupying power.

Another major point that al-Zawahiri brings up is Obama's maintenance of the U.S. government's approach to the ongoing Palestinian/Arab-Israeli conflict, heavily favoring Israel while claiming to be an "even-handed" mediator, a claim few believe outside of the U.S. and Israel.

If and when a video link becomes available, I'll post it so those readers who know Arabic may listen to it. It is also available on various online discussion forums used by Sunni jihadis.

UPDATE (6:01 p.m., June 2): An Arabic language PDF of al-Zawahiri's statement is now available below:
